Engagement pictures and Hawaii

Hello all!
We can't believe how close the wedding is getting! We are definitely making progress on the planning and covered a lot of ground this week: meeting with the florist, the ceremony site, the bakery! We wanted to share some of the pictures my Aunt Lisa took of us in Hawaii :) We were so lucky to get to go to Hawaii with both of our families! It was so much fun and such good bonding time for the families. No we didn't elope, but we saw at least 6 weddings on the beach. So here are a few of the favs...

Modern Family

Today I was watching Modern Family, which is the most hilarious show.  It is just so genius the way the writers have developed each individual character as well as the way each couple interacts with each other.  I was watching the episode, "Good cop, bad dog" when Claire and Phil switch roles of who plays the good cop and who plays the bad cop to their kids, also Cam is sick and Mitchell has to decide to take care of him or go to a Lady Gaga concert.  As I was watching the section of Cam and Mitchell, it made me think of one of Aaron and I's premarital counseling questions, "How do you like to be taken care of when you are sick?"  It was good for us to think about what each one of us is like when we are sick, and also, what we expect from each other when we aren't feeling well.  It got us talking about expectations and the way each of us feel cared for.  I think we all like to feel taken care of at times.  But my favorite thing about the episode was this quote from Gloria at the very end. So wise. Maybe you can learn good things from T.V.

“Maybe we are the way we are because of the people we are with, or maybe we just pick the people we need. However it works, when you find each other you should never let them go.” – Gloria, Modern Family

Save the dates!

So happy with the way these turned out, couldn't have been better. Shout out to my bestie Heidi Wetzel who drew them, she is gonna be famous some day :)  Also to Hawley Printing in Manhattan for printing them so beautifully!

Much needed update!

Hello!
It has been so long since I have updated!  School has been a whirlwind, but I am finally done college!!! Whaa whooo! Graduation is in a week and I only have one final left, so I finally have put the wedding back at the top of my list of things to do. I had been so wrapped up in finishing school and I wanted to finish strong, so I had to put the wedding on the back burner for the last month or two.  But now that school is over, wedding planning is back on!

Even though I had taken a bit of a break, some things still were accomplished since my last post.  I now have all of my bridesmaid dresses except for Julia's! They all look so great together and each dress really personifies each girl and fits her perfect. I am so happy with the way they turned out.

I also met with the florist and I am very excited to work with her. One great thing about having the wedding on the prairie is that nature pretty much takes care of the flowers itself. We just have to get bouquets and some flowers for the reception.  I am definitely thinking of bringing in some live tress to the reception site and putting lights all over them to help bring the nature theme into the building and to add some sparkle at the same time.  I did watch the royal wedding (not at 3 in the morning though, I definitely DVRed it) and my favorite aspect of the wedding was the huge trees inside! The funny thing is that my dad thought of this idea before the royal wedding! My dad is so trendy. haha.

I also found some shoes that I am in love with... they are so sparkly and so fabulous. Just the perfect addition to my dress. I wish I could share them with you, but I have to have some secrets to reveal on the big day!

So here are some things we have left to plan this month:
  • find a cake baker!
  • find a DJ
  • take some engagement pictures
  • start to plan the little quirky details :) - can't wait for this step

Anyone know of a great cake baker or DJ in Manhattan? I am always up for suggestions!

Valentine's Day and sappy love songs

Today is Valentines day and in the spirit I spent some time listening to some great love songs. What do you think makes a great love song? Aaron and I have so many great songs that evoke distinct memories, and there are so many beautiful songs out there about love.  We really want our first song to reflect who we are as a pair of course and be a tribute to our future together. I think we may have found a very good contender! But this of course is a secret :)

Aaron and I exchanged food this year for valentines :) Yum. I think we both think with our stomachs sometimes haha. I love this cute print, and what a nice thing to say to your fiance on valentines day!

ceremony site

Today is a snow day so I thought it would be a good time for some updates. We have already picked out our ceremony site and it is so kansas and so lovely. We both really wanted to get married outside and we thought, what would be better than the prairie in the fall? There is a prairie preserve 5 minutes outside of Manhattan with a cute house and lots of land.  They have never done a wedding before so it should be very fun!  So this spring as soon as it gets a bit warmer we get to go and pick out our plot of land where we will hold the ceremony.  I can't wait for some warm weather. But how dreamy does it look now in the winter?

Also before I go, how true is this poster?

first bridesmaid's dress

How exciting! Today a package came in the mail and it was my first bridesmaid dress for Heidi!
My inspiration was this soft palette of blush color dresses, so romantic! I want to do range of different dresses like these that really are unique to each person.

And here is the first dress!

So lovely.

New Blog!

So it has already been a little while since Aaron and I have been engaged, but I thought to myself never to late to start a blog right? I thought it would be fun to be able to look back at memories of this unique experience of planning a wedding.  Also I want to share my inspiration with you all and keep you updated on new details while they come along, not to mention a blog is such a good distraction from school (this semester is going to be a hard to be motivated) So I have some catching up to do to so I better get a move on!
